Welcome to our website and our first newsletter. We are a group of like minded artists who met through Sian Martin's Distant Stitch courses. We formed in 2019 and had a smashing weekend together at Kingcombe Centre Dorset. We made plans, allocated tasks and planned to hold our first exhibition at Kingcombe. Helen and Julia both held great workshops. Our future was bright and sunny! Alas, like so many others our plans were disrupted by Covid 19. Our first 2020 meeting in April 2020 was cancelled, followed by our first exhibition and second planned meeting in September. Worse still was that one of our members was seriously ill with this horrible virus. None of us felt like getting on with much group work and anxiously awaited news. Very happily she began to slowly recover and we all felt brighter. We began to plan and to stitch again! Online meetings were arranged and we adapted our initial plans. With renewed vigour we got back to our exhibition pieces. We provisionally booked 2021 meetings and rescheduled our exhibition. It is difficult to adjust to a new world whereby you need to be not only an artist but photographer, advanced phone user, IT whizz and social media user! We have tapped into husband’s and children's knowledge and shared advice, helped and supported each other. We decided we needed a new project. Starting October 2020, we are working with the idea of Ten Places: Ten Artists. Each artist has chosen a place with a special meaning for them and will produce ten squared pieces of work over ten months. All of the artists chose a place linked to the lockdown, a place important to them during actual lockdown or the first place they visited when restrictions were lifted. The works will be shown on Instagram @ten19fibre and our plan is to exhibit the completed 100 pieces of work late 2021. As a group we are looking forward again, maybe not as we initially thought, but still moving forward!
